What is the ideal lighting at the washplace? Andrea Bühlmann and Andreas Janser are responsible for finding the answers. Their hard work in the light laboratory has resulted in an innovative lighting concept on the new Geberit ONE mirror cabinet.

At the new light laboratory at Geberit headquarters in Rapperswil-Jona (CH), engineers work on developing the perfect lighting for the bathroom. In many bathrooms, the mirror cabinet is the only light source. The lighting concept is thus particularly important when applying make-up or shaving.

We wanted to develop a mirror cabinet with harmonious lighting and intuitive operation.

A job for the tinkerers

The search for lighting that is appealing and intuitive to operate needs a lot of analysis. This is the job of Andreas Janser, Product Manager International in the AquaClean team, and electronics development engineer Andrea Bühlmann.

In the light laboratory, they install light sources on different products and then examine how the light is reflected from the washbasin and furniture, and how much light is needed to illuminate a room optimally.

Brighter light is automatically cooler in order to illuminate the smallest detail. Meanwhile, darker light becomes warmer and creates the perfect atmosphere.

Perfect harmony

The result can be seen on the new Geberit ONE mirror cabinet. “We wanted to develop a mirror cabinet with harmonious lighting and intuitive operation,” comments Andreas Janser. This patented lighting concept is called ComfortLight.

Four integrated light sources perfectly illuminate the mirror image, washbasin and room. The brightness and colour temperature are linked together here – brighter light is automatically cooler and darker light warmer. In addition to the individual setting options, four pre-programmed lighting moods are also available. This includes a particularly soft light that doesn’t disrupt the human body clock when visiting the toilet at night.
