A house in the ice

In the heart of the breathtaking landscape of Greenland, the Icefjord Centre tells the story of the polar ice. The unique shape of the building presents challenges, including for the sanitary installations.

GEBERIT KNOW-HOW
- PE drainage system
- Sigma cistern
- Duofix installation system
- Sigma70 actuator plate
Not only the Northern Lights but also icy temperatures of down to -20 degrees shape the character of Greenland’s west coast. Here you will find the Ilulissat icefjord – 6 km wide and 55 km long, and a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2004. In spite of the cold, 70 million tonnes of ice break off the neighbouring Sermeq Kujalleq glacier into the fjord every day. The ice mass at the fjord has halved over the last decade. The icebergs drifting through the bay bear witness to this.
Special shape
This natural spectacle can be observed from the Ilulissat Icefjord Centre. The visitor centre is situated on a secluded plateau on the edge of the third largest town in Greenland. The building in the shape of a wing blends in excellently with the breathtaking landscape, but also places special demands on the construction.
A case for Geberit
This also applies to the sanitary technology. A whole series of Geberit products are deployed here, including the PE drainage system, the Duofix installation system as well as Sigma cisterns and actuator plates. This shows that the products also work reliably under extreme conditions.
