  • Pluvia roof drainage system

At the south-western tip of Taiwan, the energy of global trade meets the rhythm of everyday city life. Kaohsiung is home to Taiwan’s largest port, which handles 70 percent of the nation’s shipping containers.

In addition to its cargo operations, the port terminal constructed in 2023 is also important for passenger transport. Spanning 80,000 square metres, the facility is designed to accommodate up to 3,500 passengers per hour. This means the building plays a key role in the region’s cruise industry.

Ship hull as landmark

The port terminal is a landmark of the city of 2.7 million inhabitants. The terminal’s striking design resembles the hull of a ship. A 15-storey office tower rises majestically over the terminal and is modelled on a chimney. An elevated public promenade leads pedestrians directly past the terminal. The heart of the terminal is located below this promenade: two separate areas for cruise and ferry passengers ensure efficient, safe operations for those departing and arriving.

The roof drainage system of the terminal is also designed with efficiency and safety in mind. In Kaohsiung’s tropical climate, which is characterised by heavy rainfall from typhoons and monsoons, the siphonic Geberit Pluvia system efficiently drains large volumes of water from the roof and protects against potential water damage.
