A walking Geberit catalogue

Geert Maswiens has been one of the voices on the Geberit technical hotline in Belgium since 2008. He acquired his expertise on the side in the years beforehand while working in logistics.
Geert Maswiens still works at his first employer. He is 55 and has been here for over 30 years. In fact, he has already been working for Geberit in Belgium before the sales company even exists. “I am the longest-serving employee here,” he says.

It all starts off in logistics. Geert Maswiens accepts goods from Switzerland and makes sure they are loaded correctly. He experiences the growth of Geberit in Belgium – and grows too. “More and more often, customers would come up to me and ask me technical questions about the products.” At the beginning, he refers them to his colleagues. But then he wants to know more. He starts to do some research and is soon able to answer the questions himself.

Who dares wins
This is how he develops into a Geberit all-round expert – on the side, so to speak. When a vacancy comes up on the technical hotline in 2008, he decides to go for it. “I felt I had the necessary expertise.” His future supervisor agrees and gives him the job.
His know-how is amazing.
Since then, Geert Maswiens has been one of the voices on the other end of the telephone when customers have a question. José Wyns, Managing Director of the Geberit sales company in Belgium, says: “His know-how is amazing, he makes a difference as an advisor on the telephone and sets us apart from the competition.”
Customers appreciate that. So much so that they sometimes ring up just to ask about an article number. Geert Maswiens knows them off by heart. “There are colleagues who say I am a walking catalogue,” he says and grins.
