Where the music plays
Old and new, nature and culture, indoors and outdoors – the “House of Music Hungary" in Budapest combines these contrasts with a sense of playfulness.
100
recesses
The immense roof is perforated by about 100 crater-like recesses of different shapes and sizes.
Those entering the 9,000 m2 cultural centre with concert rooms, a museum, a library as well as numerous workshop rooms will have one foot in the 200-year-old city park of Budapest (HU) – at least in the entrance area. The undulating canopy is perforated by about 100 crater-like recesses of different shapes and sizes, through which park trees grow. The roof construction ensures that the building blends harmoniously into its surroundings.

Open to all
Just as the park continues to grow in the building, the art offering at this cultural institution continues in the park. This is ensured by the open-air stages, which are covered by the cantilevered roof yet are open on all sides. The openness to nature and to the audience can be seen throughout the cultural building, which has taken home several architecture awards.
In addition to the design, the sustainable building concept is also impressive. It includes not only energy-efficient heating and cooling technology, but also maximum use of the natural resources of daylight and rainwater. Geberit contributed to efficient waste water disposal with its flushing and drainage systems.
