More axles, less CO2

Super-size trucks with multiple trailer units now travel between the ceramics plants in Bromölla (SE) and Ekenäs (FI). Special approval was needed here in Sweden. But this effort has paid off – in two respects.
The ceramics plants in Bromölla in Sweden and Ekenäs in Finland are almost 1,000 kilometres apart, yet still have a close connection. Together, they produce a large share of the Geberit ceramic appliances for Scandinavia. Several times a week, trucks bring products from Sweden to Finland and vice versa.
A new addition to this route is high-capacity transport, with multiple trailer units measuring up to 35 metres long. While this has been allowed in Finland for some time, approval in Sweden is only granted recently. “We had to fulfil national conditions and get the local authorities on board,” says Per-Olof Johansson, Head of Logistics in Bromölla.
High-capacity transport has seen emissions drop by around 30 percent. The new vehicles are also powered by HVO fuel, an environmentally friendly diesel alternative. Together, this results in a CO2 reduction of around 95 percent – with costs also falling.
